What Is a URL QR Code?

A URL QR code sends anyone who scans it straight to a web page. It's the most common type of QR code — used on product packaging, business cards, posters, restaurant menus, and digital ads.

With Scansprout, you can create a basic static code (the URL is encoded directly) or a dynamic code that lets you change the destination later and track every scan with analytics — device type, location, and time.

How to Create a URL QR Code

  1. Paste your URL into the URL field above. Make sure it starts with https:// for the best compatibility.
  2. Choose static or dynamic. Static is free and permanent. Dynamic lets you edit the link later and see scan analytics (requires a free account).
  3. Customize the design — open the Customize panel to change colors, dot style, corner style, and upload a logo.
  4. Download your QR code as PNG or SVG. SVG is best for print; PNG works for screens and social media.

Technically, QR codes can encode up to about 4,296 characters. But longer URLs create denser, harder-to-scan codes. Keep URLs short — use a URL shortener if needed, or use a dynamic QR code which always uses a short redirect link.
